Our intent is to strengthen individuals, families, and communities by showing that recovery principles are universal. Each book in the Sustainable Recovery Network series follows the same chapter structure, but is tailored to the sacred language and cadence of a specific tradition—Agnostic, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Latter-Day Saint, Muslim, and beyond. This approach honors doctrinal integrity while demonstrating that the principles of recovery are not confined to one fellowship or faith, but are shared human truths. By inviting members of each tradition to help shape their edition, we ensure authenticity, trust, and resonance. Our goal is not to dilute doctrine, but to build bridges—empowering leaders and families with modular, leader friendly tools that prove recovery belongs to everyone.
Why a New Series of Books?
This series exists because the original Twelve Step literature, while historically significant, contains language and assumptions that no longer serve many readers in the twenty first century. Eight decades of experience across multiple fellowships have revealed patterns, insights, and corrections that were not visible in the 20th century, and a careful comparison of the full body of 12 step writings shows that the core message can now be expressed with far greater clarity and accuracy.
Modern research demonstrates that when the wisdom of all Twelve Step traditions is brought together, the underlying principles align with remarkable consistency, while long standing errors, blind spots, and dated expressions become unmistakably clear. This integrative approach makes it possible to articulate the original design with a precision and accessibility that simple edits or incremental updates could never achieve.
At the same time, many members remain deeply attached to the familiar language of earlier texts, and there is no reason to suggest that they are not needed. The original 12-step fellowships will continue offering their traditional literature for those who prefer it, while this series provides modern presentations that preserve the spiritual heart of the program in language that speaks to today’s readers. Together, the old and the new can serve the full spectrum of people seeking recovery in our time.

There’s nothing to join and nothing to sign up for. You can read quietly, check in occasionally, or follow along more closely if you choose. Many people become loyal readers over time just by returning whenever something resonates with them.
